Meet Sharon Bjorck
More about Sharon
Sharon conceived and began developing Workplace English Consulting (WEC) in 2020, in the midst of the global pandemic.
In 2021, she began subcontracting with Workplace Literacy Associates. Sharon and created and delivered customized live online workshops on various topics for the Intercultural Communication Series at City of Hope National Medical Center through the end of 2022.
After completing a rigorous application process with the United States Department of State, in September of 2023, Sharon earned a spot in the educator pool of the Virtual English Language Educator Program. This pool is used for worldwide virtual teaching projects developed by hosting U.S. Embassies.
Sharon was matched with a project through the U.S. Department of State in November of 2023. She developed a 17-week custom all-skills English class focused on communicative listening and speaking for two sections of 20 Ukrainian scientists, researchers, and academics.
The U.S. Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, contracted with Sharon again in the fall of 2024 to create and teach three sections of a 14-week English class similiar to her first project.
In addition to 25 years of teaching community college credit classes in ESL for academic purposes, Sharon has provided customized English training for an accountant at a large corporation, as well as for different groups of Japanese veterinary technician trainees.
Beginning in 2020, Sharon has been volunteering her time each week teaching English one-on-one to individuals or small groups who are refugees and/or live in conflict-affected regions worldwide. This is done online through the non-profit organization Paper Airplanes.
Sharon has a Master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and a BS in accounting.
Since 1995, Sharon’s career has included doing curriculum development, materials writing, and program design.
Sharon also has extensive experience in assessing the writing and speaking of incoming students for their placement into appropriate college classes.
Sharon has taught/trained groups ranging in size from 1 to 33.
She utilizes learner-centered, content-based, and brain-based methods.
Sharon has presented at multiple professional conferences.
She voluntarily serves her professional association annually by reviewing proposals of potential sessions for its yearly international conference.
Whereas none are required for her certification, Sharon regularly attends continuing education events.
She is a long-time member of TESOL, Inc. and CATESOL.
She is also a member of three CATESOL Interest Sections:

Teaching of Pronunciation (TOP)
Materials Writers (MW)
Marquis Who's Who inducted Sharon as a representative of English Language Teaching Professionals from the state of California in November of 2022.
Sharon lives in Los Angeles County and grew up just outside Princeton, New Jersey.
During the pandemic, she discovered a love for painting by taking occasional "Yaymaker" virtual painting classes.
