Collaboration with management and trainees
Workplace English Consulting collaborates with management and trainees in determining and designing the specific training opportunity in order to meet the needs of all stakeholders in the program. Trainees implement what they have learned between sessions in order to see progess and results and are involved, along with the language training specialist and other stakeholders, in evaluating and further customizing the program as it proceeds.
Example: Management at McKesson Water Company wanted one of its accountants to polish her English in order to have more opportunities for promotion. Sharon Bjorck was hired to provide language training. After doing a needs assessment with the employee, the employee's boss, and the employee's boss' supervisor, and assessing the employee's English skills, she designed a custom program focused on pronunciation, public speaking, and grammar needed for writing. The language trainee took action between training meetings by applying what she was learning. Midway through the program, feedback was solicited from each of these three direct stakeholders to assess progress and determine if any modifications were desired. Progress was appraised positively, and one new training target was added based on this collaboration.
